# Map of network states (& cities)(there is surprising amount 🤯) Source: https://twitter.com/NiklasAnzinger/status/1644309671002382336?s=20 ## Summary The author, Niklas Anzinger, frames the network state as a strategy for governing the built world and says it is linked to building new cities. He quotes Balaji's claim that "bits reopen innovation in atoms," with innovation in biomedicine, robotics, and energy downstream of the network state rather than upstream. Anzinger says he wants network states and new cities to speed up technological development in the real world, and presents a map of this fragmented space as an attempt to make sense of it. ## Article #TheNetworkState x New Cities @balajis network state is a powerful idea that is attracting lots of attention and talent to the space of competitive governance pioneered by @patrissimo Yet I encounter a lot of confusion about network states. To many, it seems like a Discord Server on steroids. Many are surprised when I say "but we're building new cities". I interpret the network state as a strategy innovation on how to govern the built world. I'm inspired by the idea that: “Bits reopen innovation in atoms. Innovation in areas like biomedicine, robotics, and energy is not upstream of the network state, it’s downstream of it.” (Balaji) I want network states and new cities to supercharge technological development in the real world. This map is my attempt to make sense of this nascent and fragmented space, to show it's possible to do that. I expect pushback and discussion around the concepts.
