**rvolz.eth**: "The lesson of MINITEL is that hypermedia within Europe should be developed as a hybrid of state intervention, capitalist entrepreneurship and d.i.y. culture."

Minitel is an interesting example, not only because its appeal seems to be part of the ongoing 70s revival (it features also in the entertaining french comedy UFOs/OVNIs https://www.imdb.com/title/tt10768876/).

The "state intervention" part for this kind of application differed widely across Europe, still separated by telecom-empires. While the Minitel was highly successful, its German counterpart BTX was less so, due to a different approach of Deutsche Telekom. BTX is nowadays mostly remembered for being successfully hacked by the CCC.

Maybe more "capitalist entrepreneurship and d.i.y. culture" could help to avoid that
