It advises using Bolt or Grab for rides, Foodpanda for delivery, carrying cash because cards are accepted only above 200 baht (about $6.18), and buying travel insurance after a hospital visit that cost $300 and a CT scan that cost $3000. ## Article I've been living permanently in Bangkok for 6 months, so I decided to make this guide to make your life easier and less chaotic (for at least a week). 1. Accommodation & Districts Bangkok is divided by the river. Most of the side events and @EFDevcon itself will take place on the right side of Bangkok, so we're looking only at this part. Don't live anywhere near Khaosan Road. This place is chaotic and you won't have a good sleep, because it's always noisy and people party the whole night. Also avoid living near Chinatown, night markets, etc. Bangkok never sleeps but you need to sleep for some hours. I personally live in Phaya Thai district, there is some grass to touch, it's really modern and beautiful, and also it's close to every side event within ~15 minutes on a bike. I would also recommend Bang Sue, Chatuchak, Din Daeng, Ratchathewi, and Dusit districts. Condo vs. Hotel I guess you know everything about hotels yourself, so I don't have to explain anything here, but! I really recommend choosing condo on Airbnb instead of hotels, simply because condos are better and less pricy. If you don't know yet, condos are simply apartments in super modern buildings where you have a gym, swimming pool (usually multiple ones), co-working space, 7-11 on the first floor, etc. I even have a small cinema in my condo, so it really depends. I see this as an ideal option, because you literally get hotel service (and sometimes even better), but for a lower price. You can rent such condos in districts I listed for about $30-60 per night. Hotels also work, but I generally recommend condos, where you can get some work done at co-working as long as some gym / cardio sessions in the morning before networking for 12 hours straight. 2. Transportation First thing you have to understand: there's always heavy traffic in Bangkok. So you should order a taxi car only twice: 1. When you feel exhausted after a long flight and want to get to the hotel (condo) in comfort 2. When you're going back to the airport to fly out Bangkok with a full suitcase of clothes from the famous fashion brands like Berachain, Solana, EigenLayer, Story Protocol, etc. So there are 2 options left: bikes and metro (subway). Metro system is pretty fast and very clean, moreover it's not under ground, but on the ground, so you can enjoy city views while getting to the side events. My favorite option is bike taxi. You can get really fast with a bike driver than car driver, like way faster. The waiting time for car drivers are usually 10-20 mins, but bike drivers arrive within 1-2 minutes wherever you're located. Prices are between $1-2 per ride. • Is it scary to sit on the bike? First time yes, but you get used quickly. • Won't I get into trouble? No, all drivers are very polite and cautious. • How do I hold myself? Put your hands on a back of a seat. For the taxi purposes (both car and bike) use @boltapp or @GrabTH. Bolt has better rates, so I usually use it and avoid Grab, but it's always up to you! 3. Food Thai food is delicious and you're not limited to pad thai or tom yam. There are infinite options, mostly rice or noodles with chicken or pork. You will not get food poisoning from street food, don't worry. There are infinite options of cafes, restaurants, and night markets. So I don't even know what to recommend. Thai food is literally everywhere, so yeah. But here are my favorite places that are not thai food: • Cantina: https://maps.app.goo.gl/pQYLjb52THiYpYne7 • (Not Just) Another Cup: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Eogc4f342h8x5Uoc7 • CUM Coffee: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FSgmo5hSDzTRas8N9 • Vertigo: https://maps.app.goo.gl/52ZDusbKVjgZDHYu5 • VERDE: https://maps.app.goo.gl/qMYuMnaPbu8RPLtV9 For food delivery use @foodpanda_th or @GrabTH. Foodpanda has better rates, but sometimes there are some cafes on Grab that you cannot find on Foodpanda. 4. More Essentials Thai people are really nice and they will always help you to find the way out. Even if they don't speak English, they will find someone who speaks it within a minute so this person can help you. It rains quite often there, but it lasts for no more than 20 mins, so always carry an umbrella or raincoat (or better both). Thailand is not completely cashless country. In most of the places (including 7-11), you can only pay with a card if your total exceeds 200 baht, which is around $6.18. Imagine you want to buy just a bottle of water, but need to get like more stuff every time. So carry some cash! Have a medical insurance. I got a food poisoning once and went to hospital where they put in the IV and made me pay $300 for that. A friend of mine did CT scan and it cost $3000. So get some travel insurance! You can buy SIM at any 7-11 store (they're literally everywhere), it is pretty cheap and they'll set you up in a store. You can also use @airalocom, but it's more expensive. 5. Before & After Devcon There are lots of pop-up cities like Zuzalu that are already live in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Invisible Garden, MegaZu, etc. You can view a full list made by @mku_eth here: https://x.com/mku_eth/status/1840319974986190981 If you feel exhausted and tired after the conference, you can travel to Ko Lan island to chill for 1-2 days. Just order a taxi car from Bangkok to Pattaya (costs around $30, 2 hour drive), and then speed boat from Pattaya to Ko Lan for around $4-5 (15 mins drive). And here you can enjoy beautiful blue water and coconuts after the chaotic week. If you ever need some help, feel free to reach out in dms, or just ask some questions in the comments, so people who have the same questions can see the answers. By the way, I created a tg group where I post the best side events during this devcon, so you don't waste your time, feel free to check out: t.me/devcon_side_events See you at Devcon!
