Wasn‘t Circle a spin out of Coinbase anyways? **mishaderidder.eth**: they’re independent founded, but think they partnered at some point on usdc governance. **timdaub.eth**: Mhh wasn't Balaji and Jacob the first people who launched USDC internally? When they worked at Coinbase? **mishaderidder.eth**: no, USDC was launched by Circle founded by Jeremy Allaire and Sean Neville in 2013. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circle_(company) **macbudkowski.eth**: Yes, it was a spin-off and Coinbase had (has?) some stake in the company. It'd be interesting if Coinbase bought Circle because I imagine other industry players that are worried about CB dominance would be less prone to adopt USDC. Especially in the world of so many stablecoins to choose from. **mishaderidder.eth**: haha proof it! i can't find anywhere that Circle was a Coinbase spin-off. but maybe iykyk ;) it seems it is distinct independent founded companies. Circle and Coinbase have been connected on USDC since Coinbase has been particpating in governance through a join venture since 2018. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USDC_(cryptocurrency) **timdaub.eth**: More details: https://news.kiwistand.com/stories/@balajis:-How-USDC-grew-from-dollar25M-to-dollar56B-in-seven-years?index=0x682c516f3c39216f8ac910ca5e9d40dba51d72fb4bedd33dc67cc1cc9b6080cb12e4ef43 **mishaderidder.eth**: yes that’s convincing ! thanks **curl.ytocin.eth**: let's not forget that ripple is also putting their hat on the ring for this buyout Out of the two I'd prefer coinbase, but this is why I think decentralized stablecoins are the future
