Sources in the talks say the law has created urgency among EU officials who fear falling behind in the race to develop central bank digital currencies. The article reports growing openness to running the digital euro on a public blockchain such as Ethereum or Solana rather than a private system, and it notes that dollar-backed stablecoins make up 99% of the global stablecoin market. The European Central Bank says it is still weighing centralised and decentralised technologies and has not decided on the final structure. ## Comments **misha**: The original FT article (which I can’t share here since it’s paid) mentions Ethereum or Solana, but in the context of examples of a public blockchain. So not literally, which is good to know, since a lot of articles suggest otherwise. I tried to find the most neutral article to share here. In my opinion it would be most obvious to just adopt EURe on Gnosis, since that is already a solid option. Anyway it would be good to have stablecoins other than the tired USDC. But well, I’m a Europoor, so biased ;)
