# @Rodeo: we've made the decision to wind down Rodeo Source: https://x.com/saturnial/status/2016212705036939476?s=12 ## Summary Rodeo, a platform for collecting onchain, is being wound down because it did not grow to the scale needed to be sustainable long-term, according to the announcement. Posting and collecting remain available from January 27 to February 10, when the platform moves to read-only mode, and it will be turned off on March 10. Users can take part in a guided send-off experience, migrate their media and metadata to Arweave, and transfer assets held in Rodeo's smart account with an asset migration assistant. ## Article Today, we’re sharing that we’ve made the decision to wind down Rodeo. This wasn’t an easy call. From the beginning, Rodeo was built around a clear ambition: to bring collecting onchain into the mainstream in a way that felt social, expressive, and human. We believed collecting could be playful and communal—not just transactional. That belief guided every product decision we made. Ultimately, Rodeo didn’t achieve its core objective. While the product resonated deeply with a committed community, it didn’t grow to the scale required for the platform to be sustainable long-term. Because of that, continuing to operate Rodeo is not possible. That reality doesn’t diminish what this community created. This community showed up every day. You created work, supported one another, and collected and curated thoughtfully. You helped shape the culture of Rodeo in ways we’re deeply grateful for. Building alongside you has been a privilege. As we close this chapter, our responsibility is clear. From day one, we set a high bar around ownership, access, and trust. Winding Rodeo down doesn’t change that commitment. We’ve built a complete send-off experience to ensure this transition is respectful, safe, and worthy of the people who made Rodeo what it was. What’s available to you A personalized send-off experience A guided walkthrough of your time on Rodeo—celebrating what you created, who you supported, and what you achieved as part of the community. Long-term preservation of your legacy The ability to migrate your media and metadata to Arweave, providing stronger, long-term guarantees and ensuring what you created isn’t dependent on Rodeo’s continued operation. An asset migration assistant A dedicated tool that ensures you can transfer any assets currently housed in Rodeo’s smart account, with clear, guided steps throughout the process. Timeline January 27 — This announcement goes live. The send-off experience is available on desktop web. January 27 – February 10 — Rodeo continues to operate normally. Posting, collecting, and all core product functionality remain fully available. February 10 — The platform transitions into read-only mode. The send-off experience is available on both desktop web and native mobile. March 10 — The platform is turned off. Rodeo the product won’t continue—but what was created on it will. That’s the power of building in web3. Work can outlive platforms. Culture can persist beyond products. Thank you for trusting us with your creativity, your energy, and your time. Rodeo existed because of you, and its legacy will too. ## Comments **mishaderidder.eth**: yes the long awaited announcement is here and also Foundation transitioning https://news.kiwistand.com/stories/@Foundation:-Foundation-is-transitioning-ownership-to-Blackdove?index=0x69791b535ac64fa10f76065b3e57f0c8b2c08a36a24a92d64bd17de98d015f0e48c1a5f5 **timdaub.eth**: It's totally crazy. Basically all of web3 social is shutting down. How is this even possible! **mishaderidder.eth**: Not all :) I have heard from reliable source Manifold has no intention of sunsetting any time soon! One of the anxieties of artists and collectors is of course wthe metadata and media is hosted. For example on Nifty all from and before 2021 is on their servers which after community panic broke out they say "For these NFTs, we will continue to host this metadata in perpetuity." You can question what is perpetuity :) for centralized servers: https://news.kiwistand.com/stories/@niftygateway:-Migrating-metadata-to-Arweave-extending-shutdown-to-April-2026?index=0x6979346063c9a65aa3075d7db3858ccfb71fc48ded5b191368922490ec9a803a37dbcee4 For FND they were pinning it on IPFS. They promise: "Blackdove will continue pinning all Foundation assets to ensure their ongoing availability." Not really comforting: https://foundation.app/blackdove I recommend if you have work on FND pin it yourself. Lowest effort is to run an IPFS node on your desktop. https://docs.ipfs.tech/install/ipfs-desktop/ Anyway I know I do. Running multiple nodes with the art I made and collected. (on Dappnode & Raspberry pi) Arweave looks more secure than IPFS but you'll have to hope the Arweave blockchain keeps on running, which is not set in stone. With IPFS you always have the option to easily run a node yourself and keep your stuff alive in the network, which is not the case with Arweave. (Or you could be the only one running an Arweave node keeping the chain alive, don't know how hard that is lol.)
