# @Foundation: Foundation is transitioning ownership to Blackdove Source: https://x.com/saturnial/status/2016191684984582614?s=46 ## Summary Foundation, the NFT art platform, is transitioning ownership to Blackdove, which will take over moderation, support and future development while the platform keeps operating as it does today. The announcement says Foundation facilitated more than $230 million in primary sales for artists and that its smart contracts, tokenURIs and royalty mechanics are unchanged, with ownership, provenance and artist royalties unaffected. Blackdove is taking responsibility for pinning Foundation content, and Pinata will let collectors and creators pin assets independently. Users have a 30-day consent period starting January 27 to opt in to continued email notifications, and emails will transfer only for those who consent. ## Article Today, I'm excited to share that Foundation is transitioning ownership to Blackdove. This is a meaningful moment for me. Foundation started as an experiment—an attempt to see whether artists could be seen, supported, and compensated on the internet in a fundamentally new way. What followed exceeded anything I could have imagined. Together with artists, collectors, and an extraordinary team, we helped shape an entirely new chapter of digital art. Over its lifetime, Foundation facilitated more than $230 million in primary sales for artists around the world. We hosted all-time-high NFT sales for artists like Jen Stark, James Jean, and Reuben Wu. We became a venue for landmark auctions by Edward Snowden benefiting the Freedom of the Press Foundation, and by ix shells benefiting the Tor Project—proof that digital art could intersect meaningfully with journalism, civil liberties, and public-interest causes. We also helped establish internet culture as part of the artistic canon—bringing foundational memes onchain, from Nyan Cat to Disaster Girl—not as novelty, but as work worth preserving, contextualizing, and taking seriously. I’m incredibly proud of that legacy. As we looked toward the future, it became clear that Foundation would benefit from long-term stewardship by a team deeply committed to digital art as a cultural force. Blackdove brings exactly that. Their focus—especially on presenting digital work meaningfully in the physical world—addresses one of the most important gaps in the ecosystem today, and it’s where I believe they can have outsized impact. Preservation has always been central to how I think about Foundation. The platform’s smart contracts, tokenURIs, and royalty mechanics are immutable and unchanged. Ownership, provenance, and artist royalties are not affected by this transition. To support long-term availability of media, Blackdove is taking responsibility for pinning Foundation content. At the same time, we’re working with Pinata so that collectors and creators can independently pin assets themselves. There should never be a single point of failure in web3. That principle matters, and we’re committed to living it. What happens next January 27: This announcement is made public and a consent flow opens. Over the next 30 days: Users may explicitly opt in to allow their email addresses to continue receiving platform notifications under Blackdove. After the consent period: Foundation will be fully owned and operated by Blackdove. Email addresses will transfer only for users who have provided explicit consent. The platform will continue operating as it does today, with Blackdove assuming responsibility for moderation, support, and future development. I want to thank the artists who trusted us early, the collectors who showed up again and again, and the team who poured their creativity and care into building something that truly mattered. Building Foundation has been a career highlight for me. I’ll always be grateful for what we created together. This isn’t goodbye to Foundation. It’s the beginning of its next chapter—one rooted in the same values, and guided by a team committed to carrying it forward with care. ## Comments **mishaderidder.eth**: regarding Blackdove recommend to DYOR. Looks like they are mostly streaming and licensing NFT for hotel lobbies. But could be wrong. You might want to do some research before you consent and opt in. If anyone knows more about this platform I would love to hear it!
