# Abstract winds down its Ethereum L2, shutdown December 15 Source: https://x.com/AbstractChain/status/2107554632675340420 After almost three years, we are saddened to share that Abstract is winding down. Users with funds on Abstract can either go to the Migration Hub, located at migrate.abs.xyz, or the native bridge, located at native-bridge.abs.xyz, and begin to bridge their assets off the chain. The chain will shut down on December 15th, 2026, any funds not bridged by this date will be inaccessible. Why? In the last 18 months, Abstract found significant growth in a number of areas. The Portal became an industry benchmark for onchain discovery and distribution, leading towards many builders finding product-market fit. Abstract Global Wallet (AGW) transformed onboarding and onchain participation into a seamless experience, leading to it becoming the most adopted smart contract wallet in crypto. The makeup of the chain led to standout apps deploying on Abstract and a flourishing ecosystem evolved. Over 144 unique apps were deployed on Abstract. This growth is highlighted in our statistics: On top of that, major global brands and IPs such as Red Bull Racing, Disney and others chose Abstract to connect with audiences through onchain experiences, leading to the onboarding of over 400,000 users to Abstract. But the industry has evolved considerably since Abstract was first conceived, and operating a chain focused exclusively on consumer crypto has ultimately proven to be unsustainable as a standalone model. Our growth began to stagnate due to our restricted DeFi ecosystem, thin liquidity on the chain, minimal institutional cross-over, and limited budget compared to competitors. We explored every angle behind the scenes over these last 12-months in an attempt to find product-market fit and make the chain scale. We wanted to make things work; but the chain landscape had changed radically and we were facing significant headwinds. This led us to a crossroads: continue exhausting resources on a chain that is operationally unsustainable and not scaling, or elect to shut it down. After extensive deliberation, we agreed that the best path forward was to wind down the chain. To the Abstract team, thank you for your tireless effort throughout this entire journey. Your contributions set the benchmark for discovery products in the industry and showed what is possible for consumer crypto. To our partners & builders, thank you for the support over these last two years. Some of the most novel projects deployed on Abstract and made the ecosystem such a special place for people to interact. To the Abstract community, thank you for your unwavering passion and support since Mainnet launch. The culture that formed on Abstract was truly special and we wish the result could have been different. Next Steps Abstract users can bridge assets off the chain through the Migration Hub at migrate.abs.xyz. They can also migrate through the Native Bridge at native-bridge.abs.xyz, but should expect a 3-hour delay. Abstract’s engineering & ecosystem team will work with Abstract-based projects to assist them in their migration process to different chains. All users will have until December 15th, 2026 to migrate their assets off Abstract. Any users that do not migrate their assets by this date will lose access to their funds, we suggest doing this at your earliest convenience. Please beware of impersonation, fake migration sites, and DMs claiming to represent Abstract. Only use the official link and cross-check it with Discord and other official channels. ## Comments **mishaderidder.eth**: Never heard of them, so not surprised:) There are roughly 43–75+ Ethereum L2s, depending on the source and what's counted. Likely this won’t be the last one sunsetting.
