@zacodil: Base was down for two hours after one bad block, no backup sequencer

Base, the Ethereum layer-2 network, was down for almost two hours after a single consensus bug produced one invalid block right after block 47806542, and all later blocks stopped. The author argues that the outage shows the risk of running one sequencer, since no backup producer or other validators existed to keep the chain running. Node operators had to restart manually before syncing recovered, and during the outage no trades, liquidations or withdrawals could be processed. The article also cites a sequencer handoff failure that froze Base for 33 minutes last August.
