Argentina's crypto moment

AI summary of the linked article

Bankless writer reports from Aleph, a month-long crypto pop-up city in Buenos Aires, arguing that Argentina is the spearhead of crypto because millions of Argentines already use it for everyday needs such as escaping inflation and buying coffee. The article credits Protocol Labs with top-down support for Aleph and says its Aleph Hub co-working space hosted 67 crypto startups and 22 mentors. It also describes QuarkID, an identity app incubated by the City of Buenos Aires, and MORFI tokens, which Aleph citizens receive weekly and redeem at more than 50 local businesses. The author notes that President Javier Milei's government has taken pro-crypto steps but that long-term legal protections remain unresolved.

Great read and interesting to get another totally different perspective on crypto than the US angle. US domination of crypto and crypto news can get a bit tiring. Sometimes people forget the SEC and OpenSea are US institutions and the rest of the world can make up their own mind about NFT and crypto.

Crypto can help people help themselves, regardless of whether their country can. And if their country can help crypto along as well, that’s even better.
