AI summary of the linked articleThe author argues that the killing of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City on December 4th marks a decisive political shift, with legal legitimacy eroded across the spectrum. Citing online celebration of the shooting, the piece says the internet from both left and right cheered it, and that a Facebook post by United Healthcare about the death drew over 23,000 laughing emojis before removal. It argues that Alvin Bragg's Trump prosecution, the Trump conviction and Joe Biden's pardon of Hunter Biden have made law appear a political tool, and that liberal Enlightenment values, which the piece describes as a victory of the left, may be abandoned as power politics returns.
Not sure I agree with the assessment here that it's a both-sides issue. E.g. Mike Solana was pretty outraged on friday's Pirate Wires. They were basically using a "this is morally hazardous" argument against Lorenz and others. But I agree that "the delegate could just be killed" definitely passes the Yarvin-logic test too +1, most of my Twitter timeline was very outraged. I am also puzzled at some of my leftist friend's reactions. For years, they've been claiming that the US healthcare problem is systemic, and now they cheer on killing individuals as if it was supposed to help. these are the same people who on one hand believe change needs to happen, even at the expense of violence who then turn around and say the incoming Trump administration want to change too much and change is bad.
