AI summary of the linked article

The author argues that customer acquisition is becoming harder for everyone, but that web3 companies have unusual channels such as token incentives, memes and community airdrop dynamics. The piece cites Sam Parr, founder of The Hustle, saying newsletters are getting harder, and notes that the newsletter is nearing 1,000 subscribers. It names four shifts affecting both web2 and web3: faster saturation of new channels, cheap video fidelity thanks to AI tools, the need to build products as acquisition channels, and the convergence of product and distribution.

A question I'm wrestling with personally:
Is it still important to focus on nailing one channel first or if Founders should start experimenting more?

Mac I know you have thoughts here!

I have a few :)

I think it's still worth nailing one channel first.

Nailing one channel doesn't necessarily mean lack of experimentation. MrBeast still produces content primarily for one channel but his videos evolved a ton since he started.

The hard part is deciding when the channel doesn't work and you should move on or when it did work but now it reached the point when the returns are diminished.

On the other hand, if you have well-designed viral loops, the users will unlock new channels for you. Someone will share the link to your app on Telegram, someone on Discord, someone on X. So as a founder I think you should be open on doubling down on the place where you see the most natural pull from the market.

Love this perspective Mac!

Big +1

Personally have decided to continue to pour more energy, love and capital into the newsletter.

Fingers crossed!

And what tactics do you use to grow the newsletter, beyond just writing every week and sharing your posts on Kiwi?

We do X threads on the back of newsletter posts as well and Substack cross-recommendations.

Looking to increase volume of output in 2025.
