Is Base only extracting value from ETH and not accruing value to it?
AI summary of the linked articleThe poster argues that ETH is falling because of the L2 scaling roadmap's tokenomics, not the roadmap itself. They say L2s could help ETH by keeping their ETH and using it to fund ecosystem initiatives such as dapps, infrastructure, tooling, analytics and education, rather than staking it. The poster claims most L2s are VC products that need their tokens to rise, and that buybacks funded with ETH would be one way to do this, though they doubt most are doing so. The poster's main example is the largest L2, which has no token but has a stock, so it must sell ETH to pay dollars to traditional investors. |

3 comments I honestly don‘t think this matters. You don‘t even want Base to necessarily hold more ETH, that just seems like an unnecessary business risk to take. When you‘re in the business of accumulating ETH like Base does, then the value is in retaining that source of ETH income. Think about it: When you have a guarantee to get 10 ETH a day that you sell for dollars to run a business, are you interested in the price of ETH to go up, or down? Up. Plus you want to increase the ETH income source output. I think the „devs sell ETH“ meme is a psyop to divide our community even more, potentially seeded by competitors. I‘d be more careful what I consume and post jaack. The weirdest thing is that people blame Base for the price drops. According to the original drama tweet (https://x.com/AndreCronjeTech/status/1888277238132388255), they sold $110M worth of ETH in 1.5 years. On an asset that has $20B trading volume PER DAY. That's nothing, and wouldn't be able to move the price. According to the original drama tweet (https://x.com/AndreCronjeTech/status/1888277238132388255), they sold $110M worth of ETH in 1.5 years. I'm sorry but didn't this guy scream in 2021 that there's an L1 rotation and then for his last project he shipped it on some Fantom Shitcoin side chain? |
