Is Solana’s GetCode an L2 or a “Network Extension”?
AI summary of the linked articleSolana's L2s are rejecting the L2 label and are better described as network extensions, since they differ from Ethereum rollups mainly in their use cases rather than their architecture. The article examines Code, a payments-focused app chain on Solana built by Ted Livingston, the founder of Kin, which offers higher TPS, faster confirmations and transaction privacy via a custom sequencer. The author argues that Solana L2s focus on narrower functionality because building a general-purpose SVM L2 is much harder, and that GetCode is betting on a monetary premium for its Kin token as the network grows. |

2 comments Thank you for tackling this subject. I just couldn't stand reading Kyle's 'hot takes' :) auditless.ethSubmitter I think why the network extensions redefinition isn't helpful architecturally, I do think that having proprietary language around things is a great narrative building strategy and it makes ETH people really dig in and understand Solana better in order to make a counter-argument. So win-win. |
