Sharing it because I have the same impression about the current market. No idea why it changed so much - maybe there are more projects, so the liquidity is fragmented. Maybe a lot of this speculation went to Solana. Maybe the ETH sentiment plays a role here. Anyway, what I find interesting is how it impacts the builders, too. I recall that in 2021-2022 everyone wanted to build in crypto because there was this contagious enthusiasm that "this is the future". Today there is much less of it. Although the industry is more mature as we have scalable L2s, more real adoption, and better regulations, I feel like we get overshadowed by undisputable awesomeness of AI. Plus there's this Price-Innovation cycle, described by a16z that shows that many people "come for the price, stay for the network". If price doesn't go up, not that many new people show up. (link to the text: https://a16z.com/the-crypto-price-innovation-cycle/) nyway, what I find interesting is how it impacts the builders, too. I recall that in 2021-2022 everyone wanted to build in crypto because there was this contagious enthusiasm that "this is the future". Today there is much less of it. Maybe the memecoin mania was the deepest point of the "trough of disillusionment"? Writers like polnya already argued that much of the "classic" crypto stack (eg global consensus) is not applicable or not needed in many use cases. It would be difficult for me to write an article called "what every programmer should know about crypto" (emphasis on "every"), but "what every programmer should know about AI" would be much easier. Maybe the L2s/L3s can change that and provide less ambitious stacks for everyday use. It would be difficult for me to write an article called "what every programmer should know about crypto" (emphasis on "every"), but "what every programmer should know about AI" would be much easier. Great point. AI is a trend that's heavily impacting multiple fields in ways that are hard to deny. If you're a programmer (or knowledge worked) and don't use AI in 2025, you won't stay competitive on the job market for too long. So it touches this very basic need to survive and feed your family. You don't need to convince anyone to follow or use AI, the benefits are obvious. But if you're a programmer and don't use crypto in 2025? Well, nothing bad will happen. You don't even have this 2021 FOMO of missing great investment returns. | |
