AI summary of the linked articleThe author argues that many everyday objects, from thermostats and cars to phones and apps, now demand ongoing maintenance, leaving people with unfinished obligations rather than finished possessions. The essay contrasts a $12 Casio watch, which it describes as finished and asking nothing of its owner, with a $400 Apple Watch that tracks steps, sleep and heart rhythms and "dies every night." It presents Apple's Screen Time, introduced in 2018, as framing excessive phone use as the user's fault, and it calls the resulting guilt manufactured by an industry and wellness culture that profit from that participation.

Actually when few years ago I bought a dishwasher I was kind of excited I could connect it to an app and the internet. But in time find out it was only generating bloated noise in my live. When I saw in my pi-hole how much it was chatting w/ parties unknown to me disconnected it from WiFi and deleted the app. Dishwasher works still fine with only buttons :) … now did the same with my tv, stereo, etc enjoying the silence.
