AI summary of the linked articleOpenAI pulled a voice character from a recent demo after backlash over its resemblance to Scarlett Johansson's AI character in the film Her, with the company alleging the resemblance was purely a coincidence. The author rejects that claim, citing a post by Sam Altman referencing Her shortly after the demo and a statement Johansson sent via her publicist to NPR's Bobby Allyn saying she had been asked and refused. The author also cites Altman's past candor problems, including the board's November firing of him for not being consistently candid, and says Gary Marcus hopes the new board recognizes that Altman's behavior does not fit a nonprofit that has pledged to help humanity.

Wow, I saw the statement of Johansson‘s publicists and this is so crazy. I actually agree with the consent portion there. I think you should reserve the rights to your bio data. Yet with SJ, it‘s tricky because I imagine her person is somehow also part of the public memory I agree. That's an extremely problematic side to generative AI - before now, it was always hard for you to be replicated, and so was easier for you to own our own persona. The seeds to this discomfort actually began with CGI renditions of Grand Moff Tarkin and the wave of deceased actors. Regulations are going to be very imp here. What I find most striking is that the king of generative AI, Sam Altman, is also the villain
