The $665M Shitcoin Donation to the Future of Life Institute

The Future of Life Institute (FLI) received a cryptocurrency donation from Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in May 2021, which FLI reported to the IRS as $665,882,523. The gift was made in Shiba Inu tokens, and it is claimed that FLI was therefore primarily funded by Buterin rather than the Musk Foundation, as earlier media reports stated. FLI's filings show its net assets fell from $537,063,467 at the end of 2021 to $11,577,504 at the end of 2022, after $368 million was transferred in December 2022 to three entities governed by the same four people, including Max Tegmark and Jaan Tallinn.
