Two years later: is my Web3 website still standing?
AI summary of the linked articleThe author checked on a simple Web3 website launched two years earlier on IPFS and ENS at dries.eth, and found it still online, with the underlying services still operational. He tried switching the site to IPNS to avoid paying Ethereum fees for each update, but the IPNS record stopped working within a day because it needed republishing. He reverted the ENS record to the original IPFS link after deciding that a $20 monthly service or running his own node was not worth it for a single HTML file. |

2 comments Such a good example of a post about web3 by someone outside our industry. I really liked how he was a bit critical and skeptical but remained open-minded and intellectually honest. I hope in this bull run we will have more non-web3 native people writing posts in this manner. Environmental considerations, especially the carbon footprint associated with blockchain technologies, create further challenges for the widespread adoption of Web3 technologies. (Note: ENS operates on the blockchain but IPFS does not.) This is slightly misleading, in my view, post-merge. In any case, nice that the author, who seems to be skeptical but open-minded, actually dedicates themselves to trying to understand the technology! |
