AI summary of the linked articleTelegram founder Pavel Durov was arrested at a Paris airport and remains in detention, which the article presents as a sharp break from the norm for social media executives. French authorities extended his detention on Sunday, and on Monday the Paris prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, said the investigation concerned illicit transactions, child sexual abuse, fraud and refusal to communicate information to authorities. The article contrasts Telegram with end-to-end encrypted services such as WhatsApp and Signal, noting that Telegram encrypts only opt-in "secret chats" by default. Cryptography expert Matthew Green is quoted criticizing Telegram's marketing as a "secure messenger" despite this. |
1 comment Confused article. What‘s the point? The author tries to explain to a non tech audience the merits of e2ee. What do we know about Whatsapp and Signal‘s back dooring? What do we know about Telegram‘s secret chat security? I know next to nothing I can say without conviction. We are still speculating what the real reason is he got arrested for. Macron said it is judicial, this doesn‘t seem true. Even the Guardian uses a mix of conspiracy theories for why he got arrested and the motivations. Can we maybe know? This is our government in the EU! |
