YouTube “Enhances” Comment Section With AI Slop
AI summary of the linked articleYouTube's new editable AI-enhanced reply suggestions, which are meant to help creators respond to comments, often produce replies that are misleading, nonsensical, or oddly personal, according to a test by Clint Basinger of the LazyGameReviews channel. In his video demonstrating the feature, the suggestions sometimes copied his earlier comments word for word, but many were wrong, such as claiming a product scoop was "coming soon" or describing burnout he had not mentioned. Basinger told the outlet that he would not use the feature and would want any AI-generated creator reply to be labeled. The article also reports that YouTube's Inspiration tab suggested videos about products that don't exist, and Google did not respond to a request for comment. |
2 comments naomiii.ethSubmitter My life online has become keeping an eye on all the slopification lol. The good thing is most of those niche philosophy videos from the 80s are not so attractive for Ai comments - so I've not seen all that many in the wild yet Not only comments with AI slop. There now also have appeared videos in my feed where the audio is dubbed in the viewer's native language (maybe with AI too?), which gives me the ick. I always want the native language of the creator, for video, text, audio, anything, always have wanted! |
