@tiagosada: World's Orb Mini brings anonymous proof of human to scale
AI summary of the linked articleWorld's Orb Mini is a planned pocket-sized version of the Orb device that World says will bring anonymous proof of human to a much wider audience. The article says the Orb verifies that a user is a real and unique human by scanning their face with sensors and running AI models on an NVIDIA Jetson, a process it says takes about 30 seconds and needs repeating only every few years. It reports 26 million people have joined the network and 12.5 million have verified at an Orb, and that Orb Mini is expected next year at 10x lower cost, built as an open source module that other companies can integrate.

Idk if it's only me but I feel like the sentiment towards World has been changing for the better. I still wouldn't scan my eyeballs, but I feel less hostile towards them. personally i don’t feel that sentiment shift, maybe it’s just being pumped more. really i will never give them my eyeballs. if you’re in crypto you should by now that everything can be hacked, leaked or breached. the eyeball hashes can’t be easily reversed to retrieve the data, but it’s not about reversing the hash itself. the issue is whether the hash can be used to match with an person if the same hashing process is applied to another iris scan. if the hashing algorithm and parameters are known, the same iris will always produce the same hash, allowing for potential matching. privacy is an essential good not be squandered for a few coins. anonymity and pseudonymity allow for open communication, freedom of expression, etc. i advise doing the opposite, staying anonymous when needed, make multiple accounts as the way to healthy interact with the internet. decentralise your identity, own your own data. do not sell out your privacy, no coin is worth it. … and if you want UBI, maybe try Circles, it’s launching next week. built value on trust, not biometrics.
