Genuinely curious what's the best way to avoid this kind of fate. As prices go up, so will the attack surface.

I found an article from the guy they were quoting writing a pretty good guide for physically securing your crypto: https://blog.casa.io/how-to-protect-your-bitcoin-from-5-wrench-attacks/

In my experience I see getting physically attacked as somewhat opposite to losing your keys through being messy. For example, you can have the perfect physically secure setup, but then someone in a location youβ€˜re not at, idk, throws your key away, or you forget something about your elaborate scheme etc. And at the same time, having all of your keys in one location and keeping everything neatly documented obviously puts you at risk to intruders. That said, I think for MOST crypto holding people, while getting murdered sounds horrifying, I think they should actually consider how safe they are from getting their money stolen while being on the internet! Yes, OK, this person was murdered. But please consider how many people have been rugged by clicking the wrong buttons since then. And so I think that is to be prevented first, because it is significantly more likely to happen and also has a large negative consequence.

It’s also in the article zinkk.eth posted, but most easy way is to create a multisigner Safe and then store the signer keys in different physical locations. But yes blockchains needs more privacy!

I agree with Tim here - getting your wallet drained is much more common. But if you want to avoid this fate, my advice would be to: (a) stay anon, (b) don't build onchain history between your main wallets so people don't know how much crypto you really have, (c) don't show off your wealth.

Btw, since the ETFs are out: why not encourage people to put some portion of their crypto into them? TradFi ETH gives you the same upside as onchain ETH. It has the obvious drawbacks of not being usable onchain, and itβ€˜s not self-custodial. But my understand is that it is redeemable by being yourself and showing up with a passport, which can be a great thing when criminals are out to murder you.

Well if you want to be really anonymous use Monero (XMR) for your spending needs ;) No one will see what you’re doing ahah

Well it'll also mean that if they murder you and steal your Monero, no one will ever know that they did it to steal your Monero hahaah
