Such a great post which encapsulates how I too felt about crypto apps in 2024.

Great post. Agree with the state of things, where I differ, we are exactly where we should be to get to the point where “society will be more efficient”. Those willing to make the change earlier rather than later will benefit greatly.

Great read.

Great read and good to speak out about this. I see light points though. Actually one of the promises of crypto came true this year and that is self banking (Gnosis Pay). It is still rough on the edges, but it’s there and I buy groceries every day with crypto. Also despite the adverse market conditions for NFT there have been some amazing art projects and experimentation. I think this year it became apparent protocol art and dynamic sculptures on the blockchain is the way forward, not selling NFT as playing cards. Also there has been a lot of development on much needed zero-knowledge proofs, it’s exciting. Hope crypto can get the grifters and scammers out, but yeah, public opinion has generally become worse lately. Hope crypto won’t turn out just to be the onchain casino. I think next year might be pivotal. Still hoping for the best.

Outside of gnosis pay the only other crypto app I actually use is fileverse's ddocs and their portal (currently in private beta).

For ddocs I even managed to hit my storage limit as I started using it for freelance writing work. It's constantly getting updates, so I do see it could replace my Google Docs usage entirely sooner rather than later. It's also not speculative, and if it manages to have a better experience than Gdocs, I imagine people outside of crypto might want to try.

It's still a long way, but we need more such apps - then our own usage of web3 might increase too as these dApps actually do something different/better.
