AI Video Generator Runway Trained on Thousands YouTube Videos Without Permission

According to 404 Media, Runway trained its AI video generator Gen-3 on thousands of videos scraped from popular YouTube creators and brands, as well as pirated films, without permission. The massive internal spreadsheet of training data that 404 Media obtained shows this, and the model, initially codenamed Jupiter, had drawn widespread praise after Runway released it in June. When TechCrunch asked co-founder Anastasis Germanidis about the training data, he did not give specifics, saying the company uses curated internal datasets.
