AI can’t have an orgasm

Okay, okay hear me out. AI can emulate intelligence, and a lot of our emotions. It can seem scared, optimistic, determined, sorrowful, or goal oriented. But AI can’t have an orgasm. At least in the way we do. That might be one of the last things to reach AI human parity. I’m sure before then an AI model will claim to have some sort of non-human non-embodied, euphoric, orgasm-like cognitive state. Assuming you believe there’s a ghost in the shell that’s having an experience in there at all. But there’s a lot we experience that’s reliant on being embodied. And we’re so far away from AI embodiment. On the other hand, artificial super intelligence implies a lot of other super cognitive states. Some far beyond human state of joy, or fear, or any other emotion. So maybe AI will reach some freaky AI orgasm that’s totally alien to our cognitive architecture that we’ll never truly know. I think that’s safe to assume so. Everything we are is a result of evolution in a hostile resource scarce environment. All of our desires and egos and fears are rooted in that history. AI is emerging out of a soup of language, images, videos, data and compute. It might be that we share intelligence with them, but very little else.

It all makes sense now.

AI can't have an orgasm

AI summary of the linked article

AI can emulate intelligence and many human emotions, but the author argues it is unlikely to have an orgasm in the human sense, and that this may be one of the last human capacities AI reaches. The article says an AI model may claim an orgasm-like state without embodiment, which it treats as a question of whether one believes an experience is occurring at all. It suggests artificial superintelligence might have alien cognitive states that humans cannot truly know. The article concludes that because human desires and fears evolved in a hostile, resource-scarce environment, while AI emerges from language, images, video, data and compute, AI may share intelligence with humans but little else.
