EU threatens TikTok Lite with ban over reward-to-watch feature

The European Commission has threatened to ban TikTok Lite's reward-for-watching feature in the EU unless TikTok provides compelling evidence that children are protected. Digital commissioner Thierry Breton said the service "could be as toxic and addictive as cigarettes" and that TikTok had "failed to prove" it complied with the Digital Services Act. The commission gave TikTok until Wednesday to present its defence before taking a final decision on enforcement. TikTok spokesperson said the company was "disappointed," noting that the rewards hub is not available to under-18s and that there is a daily limit on video watch tasks.
