According to OpenSecrets data cited in the piece, the industry has spent more on 2024 elections than the oil or pharmaceutical industries, and more than the entire energy sector, despite being worth less than $20 billion by generous estimates. Fairshake spent $10 million on attack ads against Katie Porter, who lost California's Democratic Senate primary, and the crypto super PACs hold more than $185 million combined. The site tracks contributions to and expenditures by crypto-focused super PACs, and its creator says spending is ramping up as elections approach.
