Hotshot released w/ open license

The Espresso team has open sourced HotShot, its proof-of-stake consensus protocol, under an MIT license, announcing the release at the Science of Blockchain Conference alongside a research paper on HotShot and the Espresso Network. HotShot was built in Rust and designed to scale to thousands of nodes, and the team says it can serve projects ranging from other blockchains and oracle networks to virtual machines. The team also released benchmarks for HotShot with the Savoiardi data availability layer added to its Tiramisu DA solution, reporting better maximum throughput than standard protocols in large networks, though with slower latency due to implementation bottlenecks the team plans to address before its mainnet launch later this year.
