How to connect to DarkIRC
AI summary of the linked articleThis guide explains how to set up DarkIRC, the Internet Relay Chat application of the DarkFI project, on a Virtual Private Server running Debian, and it frames the effort as a move away from trusting centralized communication services. The author says DarkIRC grants a very high degree of anonymity because it does not rely on a central server. The steps cover securing SSH access, creating a separate darkirc user, building the software from source using Rust, and connecting through Tmux and the WeeChat client. The guide marks several security compromises with a wilting flower symbol, including warnings that default DarkIRC channels are public and that nicknames are the only identifying information shared. |

1 comment IRC... it took me down memory lane. Spent like half of my childhood there. It's also an interesting example of how a pretty similar idea (Slack & Discord) with better timing and UX can turn such a project into a multi-billion $ company. |
