How to raise the gas limit, Part 2: History growth

Ethereum's history growth is currently the biggest bottleneck for scaling, and the article argues that EIP-4444 almost entirely solves it by limiting nodes to preserving one year of history. History grew at 36.0 GiB per month at its peak and sits at 19.3 GiB per month now, about 6x to 8x faster than state growth. The article estimates that history will reach the roughly 1.8 TiB threshold, where many nodes must upgrade storage drives, within 2 or 3 years, and that raising the gas limit at any amount will accelerate this timeline.
