Introducing Operator

OpenAI released Operator, a research preview of an agent that uses its own browser to perform tasks such as filling out forms, ordering groceries and creating memes, initially for Pro users in the U.S. Operator is powered by a new model, Computer-Using Agent (CUA), which sees the screen through screenshots and interacts using mouse and keyboard actions, without custom API integrations. It asks users to take over for logins, payment details and CAPTCHAs, and asks for approval before significant actions like submitting an order or sending an email. The article notes that a July 17, 2025 update integrated Operator into ChatGPT as ChatGPT agent, and that the standalone Operator site would sunset in the coming weeks.
