Joan Heemskerk on Quantum Web4

Joan Heemskerk, of the net.art duo JODI, completed a two-month residency between CERN, where the World Wide Web was born, and Copenhagen Contemporary, and the resulting work will be shown at Copenhagen Contemporary in 2025. In an interview with Peter Bauman (Monk Antony), she discusses her interest in quantum computing and what she calls Web4, a joke name she uses for a quantum, non-binary web. She compares the early 1990s web, limited to governments, militaries and research institutions, to today's quantum networks, which she says are still very local, and she describes quantum computers as roughly comparable to 1950s mainframes.
