Lifetime Gitcoin Grants Data Analysis and Hypothesis Testing

This Gitcoin Bounty submission analyzes lifetime Gitcoin Grants data and reports that North American grants have dominated the platform while Africa has been neglected. It reports a drastic increase in matching pools in Round 12, which was not close to any earlier round, and says the new pool structure led many users to leave their region unstated. The authors also found that fewer than 0.1% of the 1,886 unique grants changed region or category in ways the data shows, which they read as evidence that Gitcoin caught opportunistic behaviour. The report also provides cleaned data and open-source Python code.
