Meet the curator: Joshua Citarella

Josh Citarella is joining Metalabel as a curator to support more artists, arguing that the creative world is stagnating because artists have become financially precarious and risk averse. He writes that artists increasingly depend on big donors and must cater to a small group of elites, and he wants a scene built on new support and distribution methods aimed at peers rather than billionaire collectors. To open his fall curatorial program, he features Eva & Franco Mattes, whose 2024 work Deep Fried Half Cat has 28 signed, numbered editions available on Metalabel, and Evan Roth, whose Skyscapes series has 8 of 10 editions remaining.
