Plurality philosophy in an incredibly oversized nutshell
AI summary of the linked articleVitalik Buterin argues that crypto must shift from circumventing outside governance to building its own, and that a principled framework valuing both freedom and democracy, called Plurality, can handle modern tensions between coordination and freedom. He cites Ron DeSantis's Florida ban on lab-grown meat, which Libertarian Party New Hampshire criticized, and Google's Android feature that warns users of likely scams during calls, which Meredith Whittaker of the Signal Foundation opposed. The post introduces Plurality as the book by Glen Weyl and Audrey Tang, which treats connections between individuals as a first-class design object and describes three ideological poles: Technocracy, Libertarianism and Plurality. |

2 comments Really enjoyed this one, even though it was a long read! I went to see Weyl and Tang in person in Berlin. But I haven‘t gotten a chance to read their latest.Still, I‘m a big fan of RM so it should be interesting! With Durov getting arrested for nothing we can specifically pin point today I‘m starting to wonder whether these long philosophical pieces from Vitalik laying out his essentially very virtuous vision of a democratic future are also a means of protecting his reputation. Think about it, he has released so many texts describing his personality, it‘d feel quite surprising if he was implicated for being a traitor or evil mastermind now. The internet has already soaked up his personality. |
