Séance: Technology of the Spirit

The 13th Seoul Mediacity Biennale, curated by Anton Vidokle, Hallie Ayres, and Lukas Brasiskis, starts from the premise that we are surrounded by other worlds that might be accessed through technologies including, but not limited to, art. The companion issue of e-flux journal includes essays by the curators and by contributors such as Ben Eastham, Johanna Hedva, Elena Vogman, and Maria Lind. Amid a profound transformation driven by digitalization, algorithmic automation, and artificial intelligence, many contemporary artists are turning to mysticism, spirituality, and nonhuman ways of knowing.
