No mention of decentralisation. As usual. Fake crypto project

Still poses a threat to Ethereum, I‘d argue. Decentralization is what we‘re sneakily implementing while digitalizing the financial system. Decentralization is not the means to the end, the utility of digitalizing is. That said, there have been cases where decentralization enables the digitalization in the first place, like it did with Bitcoin.

In any case, we shouldn‘t feel entitled to think that decentralization is going to win in the long term. It might not. Utility is way stronger, and if Solana is beating us there, we run the risk of being cooked by them

Doing tech right and implementing cypherpunk values like decentralisation takes effort and care. Go fast and break stuff is much easier. The world will probably not be destroyed by nuclear war, but by convenience 🫠

Anyway I think if you built tech right, robust and resilient, it will go a long way and likely create a better future for all. I guess Ethereum has time until mass adoption arrives to built something that will be both up to core crypto values and attractive to consumers.

In this respect I always have to think about the videotape format war in the 80's where the superior format lost from the affordable format.

Sony believed that having better quality recordings was the key to success, and that consumers would be willing to pay a higher retail price for this, whereas it soon became clear that consumer desire was focused more intently on recording-time, lower retail price, compatibility with other machines for sharing.

I'm actually disagreeing here. You can be a cypherpunk and you can tell yourself that only you can have the technical vision and then you go out and you build things according to your taste and it may happen that the Ethereum prices go up and up, but they don't connect to your values or what you've aimed for. Maybe you become rich from building on Ethereum, but Ethereum didn't get rich because of you building on it.

To say that Solana is just "going fast and breaking things" is an unfair accusation. Are they "going fast and breaking things?" When I hear them talk about caring about compliance with integrating Paypal's confidential token extension, I don't come to the conclusion at all that they're going fast and breaking things. They cared for compliance. Also, in the same vain: Aren't WE "going fast and breaking things too" when we're deploying Tornado Cash and then later are faced with the accusation that we're helping North Korea to conduct money laundering? Sounds pretty "breaking things and going fast" to me.

I think there's something much harder than "building based on your dogmatic value system," and that is keeping those values in the back of your head while you talk to customers to pragmatically figure out what they truly care about to generate a product that fits their market. And this is what I hear this guy saying. And this is what I often don't see in Ethereum.

Yes, agree with you on this.

Regarding the "go fast and break stuff" I did not mean it to accuse Solana of that in particular. I meant it in a more general way opposed to taking effort and care. And yes, maybe sometimes you need to go fast and break stuff to push boundaries. Just try to keep those values in the back of your head and actually care.

What is very nice about being an artist, and that's of course my perspective, is that your first concern should not be to figure out a product that fits a market. And that when you move fast and break stuff people either don't care or applaud you haha ... and of course putting in effort and care is most important.

Understood! Sorry if I may have come across as combative!
