Solving AT Protocol's Centralized Identity

The article proposes did:fid, a new DID method for AT Protocol based on Farcaster's identity system, as a third blessed DID method alongside did:plc and did:web. The author states that did:plc is controlled by Bluesky PBC and did:web depends on domains that require annual renewal and can be seized. Farcaster has over 1 million registered identities running on immutable smart contracts on Optimism, and each FID has custody, recovery and signer keys. The proof of concept is published on GitHub, and the author estimates about $1 to register a did:fid and less than $0.01 per update, but still needs a smart contract to store AT Protocol-specific data.
