Study: Meme Is The Only Profitable Crypto Sector in 2025

A study by NFTEvening finds that memecoins were the only crypto sector with a positive average profit and loss (PnL) in the first five months of 2025, at +33.08%, while Real World Asset (RWA) projects, the second-best sector, recorded -7.95%. Comparing token prices from January 1 and May 31, 2025 across 10 sectors, the study reports that 18.82% of meme projects were profitable, versus 8.69% in AI and 6.14% in Layer 2. Pump.fun recorded 5,897,541 meme token launches as of June 11, 2025, averaging 36,405 per day, up from 10,417 per day in 2024. Still, 81.18% of meme projects incurred losses.
