Tether Invests in Shiga Digital to Strengthen Africa’s On-Chain Financial Ecosys

Tether announced a strategic investment in Shiga Digital, a platform offering pan-African access to blockchain-based financial services such as virtual accounts, OTC services, treasury management, and foreign exchange for African enterprises. The collaboration is meant to address barriers in cross-border payments and access to global liquidity by using USD₮ as the basis of the infrastructure. Shiga Digital CEO Abiola Shogbeni said the company is developing an on-chain gateway that would let users transact directly in USD₮ for everyday goods and services without off-ramping into local currencies.
