AI summary of the linked articleThe essay argues that Facebook and Twitter should go beyond crowd-sourced tools like Elon Musk's Community Notes and build an independent truth service that can settle disputed factual questions. It says Community Notes works only at a low level of analytic power, since it can handle simple myths but not questions such as whether Covid was a lab leak. It names Rootclaim as a small attempt at such a service, though the author says he is not fond of its Bayesian approach. The text concludes that a stronger, more authoritative truth signal would produce power, which it says always earns a return over time.

This reminds me of Golden, a project where I once wanted to work. Their idea was to create a global database of basic facts, like e.g., "Mark Zuckerberg is the CEO of Facebook", "United States were founded in 1789", "All squares are rectangles", and then build other layers of facts on top of that until you get Wikipedia v2. Interesting thing was that you could feed all these facts into AI and see how it could connect the dots differently than humans do. And if you wanted to add any fact, you had to stake some $, and if someone disproved it, then they could take your stake. IIRC they stopped this project and merged with some other company which had less ambitious goals. Here's the founder's 2019 blogpost outlining the Golden's vision:
