This zine could change your life

The article argues that zines, small handmade self-published works, have shaped culture, and it proposes that the modern world began with one. It cites Sub Pop, Touch & Go, Matador Records, Riot Grrrl, Vice, Giant Robot and Bust as projects that started as zines. It also describes Philosophical Transactions, a handmade publication first released in 1664 by a London group of academics that published experiment details and later carried writings by Isaac Newton and Benjamin Franklin's kite experiment.
