Trump Likes Crypto: Just As Long As It's For Grifting
AI summary of the linked articleTrey Walsh argues that Trump's involvement in crypto serves his business interests and fails to reflect Bitcoin's purpose, and that Trump's support for crypto is driven by making money rather than a real commitment to Bitcoin. He points to the $TRUMP meme coin, built on Solana with 1 billion tokens, of which 800 million are held by CIC Digital, a Trump Organization affiliate, under a three-year lock-up. Walsh says the coin's market cap reached approximately $6 billion and its price peaked at $33.7. He also cites Trump's 2021 statement calling Bitcoin "a scam" and says Trump would likely oppose using Bitcoin as a competitor to the dollar. |

3 comments If you're wondering why there is a Bitcoiner here calling for the freeing of Ross Ulbricht, then it is because this author also has a podcast called "The progressive Bitcoiner." I really don't get why you'd call for the freeing of Ross Ulbricht, it seems like a crazy "crime is now legal" angle. When he was arrested, as it is today, it was blatantly obvious that you'll go to jail for trading drugs, or for enabling that online. Considering that Ross intentionally broke the law and probably destroyed many people's lifes through his drug trafficing website, I think it's fair for him to go to jail. I don't get why we'd want to revisit that decision. Drugs are really bad for society and they should remained banned. It's literally the only thing I'm actually pro regulation on. Ban drugs, regulate them rvolz.ethSubmitter AFAIK the beginning of this was the remarkable sentence Ulbricht got (the judge imposed a double life sentence plus 40 years), not the fact that he was imprisoned. More deterrence than justice, many argued. By now, the topic has developed into a meme ... IIRC he also got sentenced partially because he hired a hitman to kill one of his employees |
