Where things stand with the Department of War

Dario Amodei states that Anthropic received a letter from the Department of War confirming it has been designated a supply chain risk to national security, and that Anthropic does not believe the action is legally sound and will challenge it in court. He argues the letter's scope is narrow, matching the statute 10 USC 3252, and that the designation applies only to use of Claude as a direct part of Department of War contracts, not to all customer use. Amodei says Anthropic will keep providing its models to the Department and national security community at nominal cost during the transition, and he apologizes for a leaked internal post written after the President's and Secretary of War's announcements.
