Why I support privacy
eth.limo Why I support privacy |
AI summary of the linked articleVitalik Buterin argues that privacy is essential to decentralization and freedom, and that the Ethereum ecosystem should support it more explicitly, particularly in the digital realm. He cites the rise of AI-driven data collection and analysis, and the rise of corporate personalized pricing, as reasons privacy is becoming more urgent. He rejects government backdoors as a workable alternative, pointing to insider abuse, such as Twitter employees convicted in 2019 for selling dissidents' data to Saudi Arabia, and to hacks of sensitive government and telecom data in 2024 and 2025. He also notes that the average 19th-century conversation was never recorded, making full privacy the long-standing historical norm. |

7 comments tung tung tung tung tung sahur vs the roman empire idk man, I feel like asserting your right over privacy now is so late. It‘s when people wanted privacy after Gmail happened. Yeah OK maybe u have the personal preference of wanting privacy (I do too), but the zeitgeist is that everyone is just going to copy whatever u do in LLMs, be there encryption or not mishaSubmitter Railway (Railgun) what Vitalik is recommending for privicy shielding your assets is quite a rabbithole, interesting protocol. If you're up for some procastrination check it out. https://www.railway.xyz yeah Railgun is pretty nice, he has shilled it quite often already still I think they could fix a ton about their UI. It is still pretty shit mishaSubmitter It would be great if the Railgun protocol would be integrated in everyday wallets, just in Metamask, Rabby etc. Anyway you don’t have to use the Railway wallet UI, you can also use Token Shielder https://tokenshielder.com/ to create a 0zk wallet with any wallet - also Ledger, but the wallet would not be “on” your Ledger of course ;) Or just build your own wallet, tools here https://github.com/Railgun-Community/wallet Now I only need someone to sent tokens privately too haha. But you can also do private farming. Weirdly at the moment I don’t feel a strong urge to shield my assets, I also always loved all the transparency. But going into the future, also with the picture Vitalik paints of it, maybe in a year or two, shielding your bags will be common practice. Protocol privacy like layer 2s on Ethereum won't work until the app devs get off big tech and a cultural mindshift. Speaking of privacy, I some time ago collected these Apple ads that do a good job showing why privacy is normal: |
