so i looked into the case where a judge has forced openai to store all chats. it comes from our old enemy nytimes. the newspaper goes full paranoia mide claiming that people use chatgpt to read paywalled articles, and then they hide the evidence by deleting all such chats, so nobody buys a subscription anymore. and they seek destruction of any model trained on nytimes articles. classic “why we can’t have nice things” scenario. hope it’s ruled that training on anything is fair use.
