Personally I disagree with this, I think we don’t need more whatever coins, further financialising social is not going to bring more meaning to the conversation.

But it doesn’t surprise me, he was floating 2 days ago that pump.fun was somehow onchain creativity instead of a cynical online casino: https://warpcast.com/jessepollak/0x7048fe02

It’s also the direction Zora is going, maybe Jesse has some app up his sleeve?

But Jesse has been really good at rebranding and maybe this is bringing back NFTs?

But not like this. At the very best it will create a highly financialised Instagram, maybe where in the best case people producing ‘content’ will organically get paid. Honestly have to see that happening before it’s captured by grifters.

The thing with NFT is there was a boom in 2021, a lot of people came in and brought a high volume of value. Those people are mostly still here but shifted their attention to memecoins. Then there’s people who want to capture that value, so they think, let’s invent memecoins but then without the meme? I don’t know.

Luckily there is still a strong core of artists and collectors really in love with what NFT brought to art. And there’s still artists making art for and with the Ethereum blockchain just because the world computer is such a magical thing!

Maybe the crazy money from 2021 will never come back, but art has found a new medium. Actually at the moment it is a great time to pick up some beautiful pieces that you were priced out at in 2021/22 (in fact that’s what I’m doing lol - and also collected a great new onchain music piece yesterday - really onchain). Anyway here for the art :)

There's def this contentcoin meta now. ZORA, Paragraph, now Jesse, are all thinking about it. I imagine if they ship their Farcaster client inside CB Wallet, they'd want to include some contentcoin features to drive txs.

If this model is ever going to be successful the ideal product market fit is likely to be AI slop.

Anyway that’s an opinion.

Don't you think you're being too closed minded here? I totally see where you're coming from, I'm also cynical as hell about it. That said, to me NFTs are really dead from a consumer-technology stand point. You're not going to scale the name NFT to normies, it's simply not going to happen. Contentcoin is genuinely an upgrade in terms of accessibility, good things could come from it

Maybe maybe, in my opinion 'contentcoin' has nothing to do with NFT as I like them. (I like them best if I can mint them directly from Etherscan lol).

And I don't think they are going to bring NFT 'back' like 2021, that is over. Art will have it's own course, and that is not on Zora or on some contentcoin I think. It is more likely to be something like hypersculptures or dynamic programmable cryptography, something build for and interacting with the blockchain. Quality on Zora is already so low, never checking it anymore. For me it's just not exciting and right out boring.

NFT will be here as long as blockchains run. Probably in the future you might call them a concert ticket, or some other great use case. But I guess no more NFT mania.

Anyway also NFT are still selling and trading, it is still a valid use case as they are now. Few days ago Rafael Rozendaal did a successful drop. Verse is going strong. On Shape blockchain exciting art stuff is happening. Modularium on Formachain has weird and experimental drops. Also Manifold has recently greatly improved and upgraded their tools.

I think contentcoin will bring more distraction and casino, it will attract more people just coming to only extract value from the space. And imagine like a news photo of dead children becoming this high value contentcoin. Just terrible in this context.

But yes, maybe I'm being close minded. We will likely see soon - I guess by now there are teams building it anxiously :)

I think Jesse just proved to himself that contentcoin is might not be a great idea: https://thedefiant.io/news/people/base-creator-jesse-pollack-denounced-stigma-attached-to-creators-issuing-tokens

Pollak’s statements come after Base triggered a Crypto Twitter uproar when it issued two tokens on Zora, and promoted the tokens on its official X account.

In an Apr. 16 X post, Base posted an image with the words “Base is for everyone”. Under the post, Base promoted the link to a “Base is for everyone” token on Zora, an onchain social network that allows users to tokenize digital media.

The post seemingly triggered a buying spree as the token quickly surged to a market cap of over $17 million, before crashing by 95% shortly after, according to data from Dexscreener. The token then recovered, reaching an all-time high market cap of $20 million. Currently, it is trading at $0.006, and its market cap is $6 million, according to Dexscreener data.

According to an Apr. 17 X post from blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain, three wallets purchased a large allocation of the token before Base’s post and sold them shortly after, making a profit of approximately $666,000.

Many in the crypto community criticized Base for promoting a token they thought was either the official Base token or a memecoin, and that ultimately crashed.

One user with the username “@web3adam” said in an Apr. 17 X post that the token launch was a “dumpster fire” and that he “feels bad for anyone building on base because all this does is devalue and discredit the quality of basically everything on the chain.”
