telegram is horrible. use real freedom tech

"Real freedom tech" Most likely, a large part of the world's population is enslaved by non-real freedom tech because those who advocate for freedom tech actually are sufficiently self-victimizing to generate a narrative for why their technology is better and how everyone is wrong for using the unsafe, mid technology. But this is essentially equivalent to being cucked by non-freedom tech. Virtue signaling is not gonna rescue anyone

"sufficiently self-victimizing to generate a narrative" huh? whats this mean in plain english

Sufficiently self-victimizing are projects who are advocating for privacy and implementing itself, but which never manage to implement the actual user-desired features to truly become a democratizing privacy solution. Matrix and Signal are good examples: Privacy advocates are left to complain about TG‘s market position, but they should actually complain about Signal/Matrix‘s lack of will to become more populist and implement the consumer features that help TG capture a way bigger audience.

What's wrong with Signal? It's easy to use and is basically the same as Telegram, but with better encryption and metadata protection.

Session and SimpleX are both very decentralized and provide strong freedom. Signal is weaker decentralization, but better for the mass adoption you describe.

Nothing is wrong with Signal, until when privacy proponents start arguing online that using Signal is more value aligned for crypto than Telegram. Because that then makes it seem like something is wrong with Telegram and that people aren‘t aware enough of how Signal has the better privacy. In that case, I always like to point out what is wrong with Signal and why nobody uses it to manage their community in crypto. It‘s because it has bad UX and lesser network effects, so instead of complaining about the prevalence of Telegram in the crypto space, people should complain about Signal not adding more features that would allow it to become more popular, to grow its network effects.

The entire purpose of crypto is you own your money via a private key. The entire purpose of farcaster and Kiwistand is you own your words via a private key. It is not logical to insist on Telegram, which is a dictatorship of bans and controls all. Signal isn't designed for communities of strangers. Session, SimpleX, Matrix, XMPP, or any freedom respecting platform would be. We've further documentated how Telegram is harmful in our article, https://simplifiedprivacy.com/why-is-telegram-horrible/index.html I reject your statement on Signal's bad UX. What has a bad UX is kiwistand, that's why kiwi isn't popular. I question your values to promote a Cloudflare Google surveillance link forum, where you are the god moderator in the name of freedom or privacy.

And by the way, I read your writing about Apple censoring crypto. But you still use Apple anyway. So you got a lot of nerve to call me a cuck, when you're basically a complete passive bitch slave that does nothing about being abused. In sharp contrast, I train people on Linux. I'm part of the solution. You're part of the problem. And Kiwistand is essentially a scam.

You‘re free to fork Kiwi on GitHub and host a better version that attracts more users and conforms more with your desire to eliminate metadata. That said, nobody forces you to use this particular frontend hosted with Cloudflare and Google Analytics, you could run your own local instance too and wouldn‘t expose yourself to this surveilance.

It's not Linux, it's GNU/Linux.

Wait a second... front end? Are there other ones that are connected? I thought this was a regular forum, it's connected to farcaster?

Not connected to FC. I re-built their algo in our own code base. It‘s all in the Kiwistand repository, the only file that isn‘t released is fingerprinting outbound click requests (a 10 line function), because that would give spammers an easy way to cheat the algo

There is also another front end, with different UI, algo, and moderation ran independently by freeatnet. You can find it at kiwinews.lol

I see. So these are connected to each other by adding each URL or somehow via Ethereum?

My main point was: People should own their identity with encryption. This is how farcaster works. This is how Ethereum works. There is no logical reason to insist blind allegiance to Telegram to control us.

Not insisting on allegiance to TG. All I‘m saying is that if we want more people to use encryption, we have to complain to Signal and the likes to build the populist features to onboard the masses

Ok fair enough, but what feature does Signal lack?

Signal lacks all the features that make people use Telegram instead. For example, great community management and useful network effects for crypto people do not exist on Signal, so with Kiwi News, we've built our group chat on Telegram instead.

> And he said "We use Telegram because Matrix hasn't lived up to democratizing things as promised" I actually have not been saying that that's a crazy paraphrasing. I have said that we're using TG because it is the only messenger in the Ethereum space with acceptable network effects for people to onboard to our chat without much churn. If I was using other solutions, most people wouldn't even join the chat to begin with. > Ethereum switching to democracy (proof of stake) PoS is not democratic; it's super plutocratic > One day man, you'll wake up and see that democracy is bullshit, as your fundamental human rights shouldn't be subject to the mob's decisions. I agree with this, I also don't want mob rule. That said, I think there are different interpretations of what democracy is, and mob rule is just one very pessimistic one.
