A new era of DeFi with ASS

Application-Specific Sequencing (ASS) proposes that individual apps, rather than the protocol, control how their transactions are ordered, so they can limit MEV harm to users and capture value that would otherwise go to Ethereum validators. The article uses Angstrom, a Uniswap V4 hook, as its example, saying it protects liquidity providers from CEX-DEX arbitrage and swappers from sandwich attacks. Under this design, arbitrageurs bid for the first swap, and the bid is distributed pro rata to the LPs in the range of that swap. The article also notes that ASS adds liveness and trust assumptions and faces a composability challenge.
